What should I read up on if I am seeking a job assisting an atty who deals with defaults and foreclosures?
I have an interview Monday with a Bank and the job is assisting an attorney who deals with defaulted loans and foreclosing properties, and the reselling of those properties. I know their will be on the job training, but what specific things should I research that would pertain to this area of law? I want to have a little knowledge of this area of law so I won't look completely clueless at the interview. This is in Michigan, btw, if that matters. This is for a Paralegal position so there is a strong likelihood that I will be doing research...

- Purchase textbooks on real estate law. You may also want to read up on contract and tort law, too. I worked in the same industry, only I worked with clients to try to save their home. I went into the business knowing NOTHING and now I know a LOT about it. You will learn as you go, and the things you learn will be amazing. I suggested those areas of reading because I am currently in school for paralegal studies; the texts for these subjects are generally interesting, but there is a LOT to learn. Good luck!
- Do A LOT of research on "Short Sales". You should go to your state's "Real Estate Commission Website". There are a lot of forclosures going on in my state right now, as is everywhere. Everything here is ending up in short sales. Investors are buying everything they can get there hands on. Like someone else said, it is a learn as you go game. Real Estate courses can really help you learn the laws and practices. There is a ton of info on the internet regarding laws and what to do if you are in this situation that may help you get ready for your interview. Every state is different, so make sure to look up the laws for Michigan. Good Luck!!! I wish I had an interview Monday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
