Upcoming Foreclosures

How long in Michigan does it take for the bank to foreclose on our home?

We were told not to make payments until after the bankruptsy, and then catch up on our mortgage payments after the discharge. How long before the bank would start foreclosure?

  1. Most likely, after you are 90 days late, they will start sending you letters stating you are in default and would be in pre foreclosure.

The following information is in regards to a lender foreclosing on your property. I'm not familiar with personal foreclosure practices or laws. The general home foreclosure timeline is available on this website. http://www.michigan.gov/mshda/0,1607,7-141-45866_47905-177801--,00.html I suggest you review all your options before heeding the advise above unless it was from a licensed bankruptcy attorney. Just to make you aware some alternate options may exist. http://makinghomeaffordable.gov is the newest Federal website. On this site, you can also see if you qualify for loan modification or a refiance program. Answering questions honestly and accurately may be difficult due to language of questions. From my experience, you may receive a Notice of Default from the lender anytime after 30 days late. Additional information on avoiding home foreclosure is available on the State of Michigan Attorney Generals website below. This includes potential scams.
