Who should the government bail out?
I keep hearing people say let the mortgages fall into foreclosure because those people signed the contract and no matter what the reason they can not pay now, it's their own problem. If this is so, why did we bail out the banks? Why are we helping other countries? Why did we help those in disaster zones like Katrina? Why are we paying taxes if it can't help our own people first?

- The government should bail out the people it serves not corporations and unions and the Democratic Party !
- 1. Bailed out banks so they wouldn't fail and take your savings/investments/checking/loan account with them. It would have also led to chaos had some of them collapsed -- runs/riots/etc./etc, not to mention the global impacts. 2. We're helping other Countries b/c this beast is global. If our suppliers/buyers collapse -- so do we. 3. The Government's job is to protect the citizens -- safety/infrastructure. 4. You're paying taxes to fund excessive and bloated programs our government is unwilling to cut back. That accounts for military safety, foreign aid, humanitarian missions, etc. overseas. I'm all for cutting taxes across the board. Get people working/spending again.
- It should bail out WE THE PEOPLE who are this country. Money given to people to pay their debts will help both them and their lending institutions.
- The government shouldn't bailout anyone. The government is here to protect us not to provide our every need. Houses are not NEEDS they are WANTS. They shouldn;t have bailed banks out or anyone else. Katrina and other countries are supported to save lives not to pay them to sit around and watch TV all day.
- Only wealthy, white people should qualify for government assistance. This is America! If you don't like it, you can LEAVE!!
- I completely agree. The taxpayer should be the primary beneficiary of any bailout. The opening view is one by those who have not thought out the ramifications of such a move. Here in California there is a section of So. Cal. called the Inland Empire that is turning into a ghost town with fore-closers running at over 50%. There are other pockets in California as well and if you look at Nevada, around Las Vegas, the same can be said about them. As a taxpayer, in this time of crisis, I expect the government to use taxpayer money to help the nation. What I don't and won't except is political gamesmanship from either party and that includes using this crisis to further their ideologue driven political agendas.
- Our tax money is given for a variety of things and reasons. I understand your grief when so many here is struggling to get by. The money we gave the banks was misused to buy property, other banks and fill their wallets. Just showed the American People we gave money away to those who did not need it. Not once, but twice! I believe if they used some of that money and helped the home owners to save their land, all that money would cycle back to the banks anyway and so many would not be homeless. (BTW J, A HOME IS A NEED!) Food & Water Shelter Clothing Should the government help the American home owners that are struggling? You dam right they should! The People should be 1st priority! Our backs made the wealthy rich, time to SHARE THAT WEALTH WE EARNED THEM! Problem is, without the blue collar workers, the white collars will drown in their tears if they had to break a real sweat and wear a blister. Don't take that harsh, it does take both to advance. Can't have one without the other. Like a wheel needs the axle. Just saying we all worked hard and deserve a fair shake.
