Is it just me, or is everyone having employment issues? I can't find employement!!?
I recently returned to Florida for the benefit of my daughter's education rather than residing in New Orleans. There are many jobs in my profession there (law). I have been back in Florida for a month, sent my resume out a zillion times and have had 2 call backs and no hire!!! They are about to repo my car and my roommate is feeding my kid. Is there anyone else having these issues or is it just me? It seems as though the last 8 years have sucked and the last 3 have been the worst!!! Due to the gas hike, all other prices have risen, foreclosure have risen and I am hoping I am not alone as I fall down this black hole of poverty!!! Thanks for all answers thus far. I can advise that my resume is constructed well. I have been advised that by many and other than the most recent addition, it is the same resume that got me my previous positions. I have been advised that there are approx 20 others looking at the same position. I am either over-qualified or under-qualified. You are right... i should go to fast food.. and with that.. i should also hand over my car and my kid cuz the only thing fast food is gonna do is pay for the cardboard box on the side of I-4. I have a degree - fast food nor any other job below my qualifications will not hire me because I am a "flight risk" with my qualifications. Thanks again guys, I am not feeling so alone!!

- You are not alone, the government statistics are purposefully skewed to make us sheep think, "all is well". It ain't. If you have sent out a "zillion" resumes and only received 2 call backs, there is something really, really wrong with your resume. You may be good at what you do buy you obviously are not good at writing a resume, based on results. You should shoot for one interview out of every 5 resumes submitted. If you aren't getting that number it may be your resume, or you are applying to jobs you are not qualified for (or sometmes overqualified for). It may be time to work fast food. Doing anything is better than doing nothing. If you want, shoot me your resume and I can give it a quick critique. Email me through my profile and I will provide an email address. Finding a job is a full time job, are you giving it 8 hours every single day?
- Well, I would imagine anyone that is just sending resumes is going to have the same misfortune. You need to do way more than that. Resumes get tossed in files. Resumes of people who have made personal contacts get the job done. You need to call firms, visit firms, do whatever it takes to make a PERSONAL contact. Speak with lawyers in your area, ask them about work. If they don't have it, they may know someone who will. You've got to pursue work as though your life depends on it, because, quite frankly, it does. Be positive. Demonstrate your capabilities. Do pro bono work if you can - anything to get noticed. Good luck
- You are not alone. I just moved to San Antonio from (guess where) Metairie and finding a job is impossible. Well, I could work at Dominos, but that's not worth the gas or car repairs. I'm looking online at things like AmeriPlan and I just signed up for a consumer based search engine- AGLOCO- in the hopes that something will pan out. Good luck ( and if you decide to sign up at agloco, please use my link: http://www.agloco.com/r/BBHG5455 maybe this concept will actually work)
- Yeah, you are not the only one......my husband and his four maintenance co workers all lost their job due to company downsizing. We were not doing good before he lost his job, and things got really bad after. He put his resume out there to soooo many different companies and started using the local job center. It's hard to get any financial help, but through the grace of God and family helping us the little bit they can we are making it. If it were not for my husband's sister paying to get our car note extended, our only car would be repo'd right now. My husband has now found another job, but it only pays half of what he was making and we are a family of 5. I know things will get better!! Sometimes we have to go through suffering to be able to do better. I know we were headed down the wrong path financially, so I think this has been a blessing because it has been an eye opener!! We know now what to do with our money when we get back in the positive. We have since been listening to Dave Ramsey and this has been such an inspiration to us!! If you would like to listen to him, just go to www.daveramsey.com and click on The Dave Ramsey Show and it'll give you some options as to which media player you want to use to listen to the show. Also, his book Total Money Makeover is the best!! I hope this helps and lets you know that there are a lot of people just like you!! Things will get better!!! Keep your chin up:-)
- Hi, You can check out http://careerguide.careerdirection.info for some useful info and tips. Good luck!
- Yes, a lot of people have been asking this question over the past few months. Good Luck!
- Yes, I was having the same problem. I am also from New Orleans It is not much but checkout this website out http://hits4pay.com/members/index.cgi?angie7b the more people you get to signup the more you can make. Like I said it is not much but it is something you do not have to work hard for you only need to refer to others. I get enough to get gas, groceries, etc. I am just focusing on getting more people to join my friend does pretty well about $100-200 a month. GOOD LUCK
- Maybe that is because you spell employment wrong. lol
- You are not the only one. The last time I worked full time was in July of 2000. I am a professional part-timer and not by my choice either. I consider myself as being underemployed. Age discrimination is alive and well in the United States of America.
